По данным Статистического регистра Росстата на 1 января 2016 года на территории Сахалинской области в секторе «лесное хозяйство и предоставление услуг в этой области» зарегистрировано 96 организаций, по виду «обработка древесины и производство изделий из дерева (кроме мебели)» — 58 организаций.
По сообщению пресс-службы Сахалинстата, в январе-августе 2016 года, на территории области, отмечено снижение заготовки необработанной древесины на 10,6% в сравнении с аналогичным периодом прошлого года.
Однако, за этот же период произведено 50,5 тыс. куб. метров лесоматериалов и по сравнению с январем-августом 2015 года рост составил 6,7%.
Что касается занятости и уровня оплаты труда. Лесным хозяйством и предоставлением услуг в этой области в январе-июле 2016 года занимались 646 работников организаций. Среднемесячная начисленная заработная плата работников, занятых этим видом деятельности в январе-июле 2016 года составила 30490 рублей и была в 2,2 раза ниже, чем в среднем по области. Обработкой древесины и производством изделий из дерева (кроме мебели) были заняты 188 человек, заработная плата которых составляла в среднем 25028 рублей, что в 2,6 раз ниже средней заработной платы по Сахалинской области.
В январе-июне 2016 года на экспорт поставлено древесины и целлюлозно-бумажных изделий на сумму более 52 млн долларов США. Импортировано этих изделий на сумму – 2,3 млн долларов США.
